The Making of a Verified Shungite Cell Plate
When you hold a Verified Shungite Cell Plate, you're holding the end of a long process — one rooted in natural stone, cut and finished by hand. This is that journey, from raw Type 2 Shungite rock to the piece in your hand.

From the Earth: The Origin of Type 2 Shungite
Our Cell Plates begin in the Karelia region of Russia, where Type 2 Shungite is mined. Unlike synthetic or powdered imitations, these come straight from rock.

The gold streaks are pyrite. The white streaks are quartz. Those natural veins are how you tell genuine Type 2 Shungite from an imitation. Look closely at a real Cell Plate and you'll see them — the veins, the texture, the grain of the rock it came from.

Cutting the Rock
Cutting rock is no small task. Each raw stone is selected by hand, then sliced into plates. Water runs over the blade to keep the stone cool while it's cut.

Sanding
Every piece is different. After cutting, each one is hand-sanded to a smooth edge that feels good to hold, while keeping the natural texture of the face.

Polishing
A rough polish, deliberately. Enough to smooth the surface, not so much that it stops looking like the stone it came from.

Precision Drilling
Where a piece needs a hole, it's drilled with a diamond bit — slowly, so the stone doesn't crack.

Marked by Hand
Our logo isn't only branding. It's how you know the piece came from us and went through our testing.

How to Use Your Cell Plate
The plate has a double-sided adhesive and sticks firmly to a flat surface. Stick it to your phone case rather than the phone itself, and clean the surface with alcohol first. The case and phone aren't included.

It's made oversized — 2⅛ inches across — so there's a good amount of stone on the phone, and so your fingers rest on it while you're holding the phone. Some people wear a shungite bracelet on the other hand as well. That's personal preference, not a requirement.

What the Research Says
A 2022 in vivo study looked at people under three conditions: no phone present, a phone present but powered off, and a phone present with shungite cell plates in contact. The researchers reported changes in heart rate variability, cortisol and inner-ear temperature across those conditions, with measurements moving in a favourable direction when the plates were in contact.

It's one study with a small group of participants, and I'd rather you read it and form your own view than take my word for it. If you want to look further, Consensus.app searches across academic literature and is a good place to start.

What I can show you is what I filmed myself, at the top of this page. A meter, a phone, a plate, and the numbers moving. Draw your own conclusion.

Every piece has a story. Every plate takes a day to make. And now it can be in your hands.
