Finding Shungite — The Shungite Medium, Chapter 7

The Illness and the Discovery · Chapter summary · from The Shungite Medium by Gary Fong
By 2018 my body was telling me the air around me was wrong. The microwave trick was relief, not a solution. Turning off routers and sleeping in different rooms changed nothing. I searched for materials that could shield human tissue from radiofrequency radiation, then added PubMed to the query. One word came back. Shungite. A black carbon-rich mineral from a region of Russia I could not find on a map, with peer-reviewed studies indexed.
I ordered a pendant from a small shop in Russia. It took five months, the website vanished while I waited, and I was sure I had been scammed until it turned up: a polished tapered chisel of black stone on a thin steel chain. The salt-in-the-eyes feeling and the head fog went within minutes. I have not gone a day without one since. Once, in the bath, the pendant floated on the water. It never happened again across hundreds of baths.
Over the following weeks the metallic taste behind my front teeth backed off and I was sleeping again. The only new variable was the stone against my breastbone, which is the kind of evidence a scientist hates, so I put the pendant in a drawer for a week and the symptoms came back. A "Raw, Type 1 Shungite" pendant ordered from Amazon arrived too dense, with no porosity, inert. It was fake. I made a video about that to the hundred and eighty-two thousand subscribers who knew me from photography tutorials, and most of them watched it. On April 9, 2020, fourteen months later, a woman in Hawaii bought a stone from a single Shopify listing with no image and no description.
From the chapter
What happened beyond that strange moment was slower and quieter. Over the next several weeks, in a way that I noticed only retrospectively, I was sleeping again. The metallic taste behind my front teeth had backed off. The low-grade anxiety I had been carrying around like a coat was lighter than it had been in months. I had not changed anything else. I had not moved out of the 5G downtown core. I had not changed my diet. I had not bought a new mattress or switched coffee brands. The only new variable was the small black stone resting against my breastbone. That is the kind of evidence a scientist hates. One variable, one observer, no control group, no blinding. It is exactly the kind of result I would not have accepted from anyone else without follow-up. So I did the follow-up. I put the pendant in a drawer for a week. The symptoms came back.
